Like many others, I have been totally impressed and enamored with the movie adaptation of Project Hail Mary. (The book is excellent too!) Ryan Gosling is the perfect Ryland Grace (even though the poor guy does not know how to wear glasses, lol.) While this is a fully digitally painted piece, I did want to bring some of that traditional flair with my signature marble paper circle I tend to do and add it to this work. I felt it really blended the look of Adrian with how I typically use that textured paper to make this a uniquely “Joannasaurus” piece.

You know I love a profile portrait bust, and depicting Ryan’s nose and hair were especially fun for me on this one. Playing with different brushes to get the look of the Petrova line was really fun as well. I wanted to keep the color palette simpler, so I kept Ryland in all yellow as a nod to his self-perceived cowardice in juxtaposition to Rocky saying that he is in fact, <brave>. Statement.
